FANTASTIC MR FOX
MOVIE REVIEW
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a movie
about a male fox, a fantastic fox. Mr. Fox is a very clever, brave, tricky and
regarded “a fantastic fox” by his wife and children. Mr. Fox steals from his
human neighboring farmers known as horrible crooks: Boggis (the fat one), Bunce
(the short one) and Bean (the lean one), for survival. On a hill above the
valley there was a wood, in the wood there was a huge tree, under the huge tree
there was a hole. In the hole there resides Mr. Fox, Mrs. Fox, his son Ash and
his nephew Kristofferson which is situated next to facilities run by the three
farmers. Because they knew that Mr. Fox was stealing from them, they took
strategic, drastic measures to try and kill Mr. Fox. But because Mr. Fox was a
fantastic fox they couldn’t get him, but he did pay the price for his deeds by
losing a tail, now he is a tailless fantastic Mr. Fox.
The movie and the book.
Firstly Mr and Mrs Fox start
off the movie by stealing the food together, where as in the book it was just
Mr Fox .Secondly, in the book Mrs Fox already has four foxes when in the movie
she had only one fox. Thirdly Mrs Fox was against the stealing, so Mr Fox in
the movie promised his wife that he’ll give up stealing and work at the local
newspaper as a journalist, while in the book Mrs Fox is in support of the
stealing. Another thing is that in the book no child gets caught or
captured by the mean farmers but in movie one is caught and Mr. Fox has to go
and rescue him. The character of Kristofferson who has a major role in the
movie but he is not mentioned in the book. In the movie we are introduced to
events whereby the farmers decide to drown the animals out of the hole and
where the animals decided to fight back by burning the town down but in the
book that is not mentioned. The movies reveals that Mr. Fox steals everything
from the three farms, while in the book he steals only for the feast. The movie
adds more background on Mr. Fox past life as a thief and adds scenes before Mr.
Fox attacks while in the books it starts from the attackThe movie was not an effective adaption of the book as
it has huge differences, it will confuse a person who already knows the theme
of the book, so it did not present an accurate rather a similar interpretation
of Dahl’s classic. Although there are
major differences, but mainly the storyline and the theme is still the same.
I really liked and enjoyed
the movie as well as the book, equally. But mostly I enjoyed the movie, because
it portrays animals as having the same characteristic as humans ,however ,this
movie placed special emphasis on the fact that animals are wild by nature. The scene
I enjoyed was when the farmers were cornered by their own dog while Mr. Fox is
escaping .The part that is least effective in
the story is when Mr Fox wanted his tail back while knowing that even if he
have the tail and have it glued in, he’ll still be a “Tailless Fantastic Mr
Fox”. Fantastic Mr. Fox is fine
for most grade-schoolers but also contains some theme and humor that will go
over kid’s head. The movie features a lot of scheming and violence, as the
three farmers plot to kill Mr. Fox for stealing from them. So “Fantastic Mr.
Fox” shouldn’t be recommended for children under the age of 16 years, it is not
suitable for children.
